A Hampshire man was seriously injured early Thursday morning after striking a horse on Route 47 in unincorporated Elgin, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash was discovered about 12:40 a.m. when a sheriff’s deputy found a dead horse on the road near Rohrsen Road and a Dodge Ram pickup truck that appeared to have “struck the horse then left the roadway after the impact,” a news release said.
The 39-year-old pickup truck driver was flown by helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with serious injuries, the release said.
The horse’s owner, who was searching for the horse at the time of the accident, told deputies she believed the animal was “suffering from a medical issue and had broken out of the stable prior to the crash,” the release said.
An investigation is being conducted and no tickets have been issued.
