State funds are set to be coming into the area to fund some local infrastructure projects, per two recent statements.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced Sept. 2 it would issue over $250 million dollars in water infrastructure loans for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022 designated for wastewater, stormwater and drinking water projects to communities throughout the state.
Wilmette was listed among the communities scheduled to receive the loan. Specifically, the village is set to receive nearly $728,000 with the intent of lining sanitary sewer lines throughout the village to prevent inflow infiltration into the systems to reduce flooding as part of ongoing maintenance.
“This is a routine program for us,” Wilmette Village Manager Michael Braiman said. “We do pretty routine sewer lining every year and fund it through these State of Illinois low interest loans which reduces the cost to our customers for this necessary work.”
In a separate initiative, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced Aug. 26 that improvements to a nearly three mile stretch of Green Bay Road would be one project in northern Cook County as part of the latest round of funding in the state’s Rebuild Illinois capital program.
The plan calls for resurfacing and the installation of new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps on Green Bay from south of Scott Avenue to the north going south to south of Kenilworth Avenue.
One lane in each direction will remain open during construction with daytime lane closures, according to an IDOT statement.
The project is set to start in the spring of 2025 and completed later that summer, per IDOT.
