Shots rang out in the heart of the River North neighborhood on Saturday night — hitting a 38-year-old man who was driving, officials said.

Paramedics were called to the intersection of LaSalle Drive and Illinois Street for a person shot at 8:57 p.m., said Chicago Fire Dept. spokesman Larry Langford.

He’d been driving south on LaSalle when a black Jeep pulled up to him and an gunman inside fired four times into the man’s car, police said.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to his cheek and was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Langford said.

No one was in custody and Area three detectives are investigating.
