Registration underway for Hanover fall tutoring program

Hanover Township is accepting students for its 10-week fall tutoring program, which starts Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Sessions are held Tuesday and Thursday nights at Town Hall, 250 S. Route 59, Bartlett, and open to elementary and middle school students in all subject matters and to high school students for math.

One-hour sessions with certified teachers are available at 5, 6 or 7 p.m. The tutoring fee is $45 per student.

Second installment of Kane property tax bills due soon

The second installment property tax bill is due on or before Sept. 1, according to Kane County Treasurer Michael J. Kilbourne.

Homeowners who need a copy of their bill in order to make a payment can go to KaneCountyTreasurer.org or call the treasurer’s office at 630-232-3565.

Payments can also be made online or by mailing or dropping off a check at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva. A drive-up payment box available 24 hours a day is located behind Building A. Payment coupons must be included.

Many Kane County banks also will accept on-time payments at their drive-up facilities if accompanied with a payment coupon, officials said. A list of participating banks is available at KaneCountyTreasurer.org.

East Dundee’s Last Thirsty Thursday set for Thursday

The last Thirsty Thursday of the season will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, outside The Depot in downtown East Dundee.

The Student Body will perform at the free event, and food and beverages will be available for purchase from DC Cobbs, Aliano’s Ristorante and Wild Willow Cookie. Attendees can bring lawn chairs.

Forest preserve district holding monthly strolls for seniors

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is offering a free monthly Senior Stroll program beginning in September.

At 10 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the fall, forest preserve district naturalists will lead a leisurely walk through a Kane County forest preserve and share the natural and cultural history of the site along the way.

Each lasts about an hour, followed by social time and refreshments, organizers said.

The strolls are set for Sept. 1 at Dick Young Forest Preserve, 39W115 Main St. in Batavia; Oct. 6 at Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve, 35W003 Route 31 in South Elgin; and Nov. 3 at Campton Forest Preserve, 4N379 Town Hall Road in St. Charles

Mums being sold in Dundee Township Lions fundraiser

The Dundee Township Lions Club is raising money for various local nonprofits by selling potted mums from Kolze’s Corner Gardens of Woodstock.

The flowers cost $20 per 2-gallon pot and are available in a variety of colors, including orange, bronze, red, yellow, gold, purple and white.

Orders will be accepted until Sept. 2 via email or phone and delivered Sept. 10 to Grafelman Park, 112 N. 5th St., West Dundee.
