Will County group gives $8K to Silver Cross program
The Will County Union of King’s Daughters and Sons recently gave the Silver Cross Foundation $8,000 to support the hospital’s acute kidney dialysis services. The funds will be used to purchase eight new televisions equipped with an interactive smart TV system to allow patients to watch live TV and educational videos, access streaming and gaming application and participate in video calls.
In addition to making this generous donation to Silver Cross Hospital, The Will County Union of King’s Daughters and Sons installed their new officers during their May meeting. The new officers are: Karla Farr and Linda Emmert, presidents; Peggy Parthun and Ida Fonck, vice presidents; Karen Colombo, secretary; Sue Gonzalez, treasurer; and Elaine Torrence and Sharon Miller.
The Will County Union is part of the International Order of King’s Daughters and Sons, founded in New York in 1886 and helped open the first Silver Cross Hospital in 1895 on the east side of Joliet. The hospital was named after the King’s Daughter’s emblem — the Maltese cross. The limestone emblem that once adorned the original hospital can be seen in the vestibule of the new Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
