Evanston fire investigators on Friday afternoon were continuing to try and determine what caused an early morning that caused extensive damage to a building in Bent Park.

On Friday, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Evanston firefighters responded to 3224 Central Street for the report of flames coming from the roof of a public building in Bent Park, the department said in a release. It said arriving first-responders saw flames coming from the roof of the single-story commercial structure.

Firefighters conducted a “well-coordinated interior attack and quickly extinguished the fire, minimizing damage to the structure,” the release said. It said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Neighboring fire departments were called to assist with fire ground operations and respond to emergency calls in Evanston. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, said the release.
