We have a right to speak: Suburbanites have a lot to say about Chicago because a large number of us get our water from Chicago. Whenever the city needs more revenue, our water bills increase. Suburbanites who work in the city pay for parking, food and retail purchases. The taxes paid there go to the city, not the suburbs. Some of us remember when going into the city was a treat, not anymore.
No surprise: It is not an amazing claim from Donald Trump in calling the Congressional hearings a hoax. After hearing and witnessing the testimony from his associates, mostly Republicans, he has no other choice but denial if he wishes to maintain his spell over those who would defend him. Confronted with the growing facts will be enough to eventually lead to his downfall. Like a sinking ship, those followers who have a shred of decency will no longer accept the deception used in recruiting their support. I do not enjoy condemning our former president but I can’t condom the corruption he brought in his endeavor to maintain his presidency.
Bible addresses abortion: I take issue with a reader who said the Bible says nothing about abortion. God’s commandment, “Thou shalt not kill,” is well known. In the Old Testament, a criminal injury causing a pregnant woman’s unborn child to die was treated the same as murder. (Exodus 21:23). And in Prov 6:17 it states God hates the shedding of innocent blood and it is an abomination to Him. In Ezekiel 18:20, God prohibits executing a child for the sins of its father. This could be an argument as in the case of rape or incest.
Wisconsin vs. Illinois: On our recent visit to southern Wisconsin, we discovered much more than pleasant lakefront dining and strolls without carjackers lurking nearby. We purchased gas for $3.99 a gallon, bought items at Target that were taxed at 5% and discovered there’s no tax on groceries! The boldness of violent criminals in Cook County, our state’s huge pension debt and the constant rise in tax rates across the state make it a no-brainer when people consider moving to a state with low taxes rather than pre-election giveaways.
Hearings expose truth: With the Jan. 6 hearings on TV, I can only hope that Trump’s followers finally wake up and smell the coffee. Your beloved leader is guilty of treason, sedition and the possible overthrow of this government.
Politics pays: Let’s be honest, if politics was not so lucrative, it wouldn’t attract so many unsavory characters.
