Who does Mayor Lori Lightfoot think she’s fooling taking her partner and her cronies to Paris and London to promote business and tourism to Chicago? She’s going to Europe on the taxpayers’ money in case she doesn’t get reelected. Stay home, Mayor Lightfoot, and work on the horrendous crime in Chicago. Who wants to come to Chicago when they might get robbed, carjacked, shot or killed?

Susie, Orland Park

Must be nice to spend other people’s money. Politicians do it all the time with the money they collect from taxes, fees, etc., and then spend or give it to those of their choosing. Mayor Lightfoot has proposed a $1 billion dome for Soldier Field, is running television ads to bring people back to Chicago and is traveling to London and Paris with her entourage to promote the city economy. All paid for with taxpayers’ dollars. None of the above address the real problem.

Mary, Tinley Park

To Ken of Burbank and other suburbanites who just can’t seem to get enough of criticizing everything that Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot says and does. If you’re so concerned about what goes on in the city of Chicago, move into the city so you can vote against Lightfoot. Otherwise, you’re just a bunch of suburbanite busybodies who should mind your own business.

In response to Paul, I would rather have a paymaster who supports the right of responsible people to have and bear arms than the Democrats’ paymaster who elects DAs who fail to prosecute criminals, turn them loose to repeat their crimes and ignore the victims of those crimes.

David, Tinley Park

It wasn’t surprising that this docu-movie was aired on Starz at 3:30 a.m. Its title, “The Accidental President.” It showed and proved the 2016 election, in spite of all the Democratic rigging and blaming the Russians, Trump still won over their can’t-miss Hillary. Why? She/the Democrats took for granted middle America and their power. Evidently, even today, they haven’t learned this.

I was watching Major League Baseball on TV and, believe it or not, the Cubs and White Sox are still members of that fraternity. They were discussing which teams were sellers and which teams were buyers at the trade deadline. The Cubs are obviously sellers as they continue to rebuild toward the future. The White Sox, on the other hand, are not sure whether to buy or sell. There was one offer made, Lincoln-Way East High School offered the sox a ham sandwich and Diet Coke for manager Tony La Russa. He’s contemplating the offer.

YCM, Orland Park

I’ve been watching some of that Capitol stuff on the TV and that is absolutely pathetic. How far are these liberals going to go with this?

Ron, Oak Lawn

Diana of Orland Park missed a big point in her argument about guns. Many more deaths are caused from handguns than assault weapons. She also should realize that most of the people pulling the trigger are more than likely to be Democrats. Guns do not kill people, it’s the person pulling the trigger. There are millions of legal guns owners in this county who use guns in a safe recreational manner. Maybe Democratic politicians should talk to their constituents about proper gun safety like not killing each other.

Jim, Mokena

I just received my bank statement concerning my IRA account. Since Joe Blow and Company took office I have lost $10,000 on my IRA. Now, some would say I should be worried about other things more important to our country. Yeah, maybe I should worry if Brittney Griner will be home for Christmas, or Black Lives Matter, Roe v. Wade, diversity, inclusion or voter rights. Sorry, I worry about myself. No one else really cares.

M, Oak Forest

To Jack from Oak Forest, I agree with what said about Biden, Harris, Pelosi, Schumer and so forth. Stocks down crashing the economy, the market, the highest inflation in over 40 years, the highest gas prices and food also. The policies are hurting the American people. I’d like to know about the border, what kind of politicians do we have? I never went to a different country without a passport. I hope the American people vote by making America great again. Biden and Democrats are for foreigners and other countries.

SueAnn, New Lenox

Inflation is higher than it’s been in 40 years. Forty years ago, the Federal Reserve chair had the courage to raise interest rates to 16%. Banks paid 14% interest on savings and still made money. Now all you get is 0.03% interest. The message of billionaire CEOs is clear: we won’t pay higher taxes, won’t let government dictate a minimum wage and don’t mind shafting ordinary Americans. All the pie in the sky stuff about the free market and the virtues of capitalism I was taught is clearly bogus and consumers are powerless.

Cassandra, Tinley Park

The United States really did release millions of barrels of oil from a national stockpile, called the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, to be sold on the global market in June 2022. It went up for auction for energy companies to purchase, and once purchased it was shipped around the globe. Among several countries that received the shipments was China. But industry experts noted that this was not unusual. Also, under federal laws, the government cannot dictate where oil gets shipped once companies purchase it.

Mark, Orland Park

So a person in the assessors office is accused of taking bribes to lower taxes. Why not just call that person an alderman in training?

Jim, South Holland

I agree with Dinetta from Chicago that Illinois needs new leadership. Many others undoubtedly feel the same. When it comes election time, we the people have our chance to make that happen. Will more people care enough to exercise their right to vote? History says no. I hope that starts to change. Soon! Choices.
