Evanston City Council announced in a news release that Luke Stowe is poised to take over as interim city manager for the city while the search continues for a permanent candidate.
Council is expected to vote on his appointment at the Monday, July 11 meeting.
Stowe will take over on July 12 as the current interim city manage Kelley Gandurski steps away to join land use and government law firm Elrod Friedman LLP. With 25 years of local government experience in Evanston, Champaign and Lake counties, Stowe is well equipped to handle the position according to Mayor Daniel Biss.
“Luke has deep knowledge of our City government as well as the broader community,” said Mayor Biss. “I am enormously appreciative of his willingness to step into this critical role at this pivotal moment, and I am confident that he will do a wonderful job.”
Stowe has served as Evanston interim city manager since Feb. 2022 where he oversaw departments including Fire, Health and Human Services, Finance/Budget, Parks and Recreation, Information Technology and Administrative Adjudication.
Stowe has been with the city for 10 years holding positions such as digital services manager, chief information officer, director of administrative services while also serving a critical role in the city’s COVID-19 response as part of the Emergency Operations Center.
The city is hosting a town hall meeting on July 12 at 7 p.m. at Morton Civic Center, Parasol Room at 2100 Ridge Ave. The meeting can be attended in person or view the meeting live on Channel 16 or the city’s YouTube channel.
Questions can be submitted online by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 11 or in person on the meeting.
