Workers using torches accidentally started a fire in the 3700 block of West Lake Ave. in Glenview on Thursday morning and responding firefighters had to climb over construction debris to make entry into the structure with hose lines, authorities said.
The Glenview fire department was dispatched shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday to a fire in a building under construction on the 3700 block of West Lake Ave., the department said in a release.
It said responding companies had limited access to the building due to ongoing construction and debris being piled in the entry way. Firefighters were able to climb over the construction debris and make entry into the structure with hose lines, deploying them to the third floor and the fire was extinguished, said the release.
Glenview dispatch advised responding units that construction workers using torches set something on fire, said the release. It said Glenview firefighters received assistance from Niles, Northbrook, Morton Grove, Skokie, Evanston, and Buffalo Grove fire departments.
The loss due to the fire is estimated at $10,000 and the cause is listed as “accidental.” No injuries were reported.
