“The Tragedy of King Christophe:” West Indian poet Aimé Césaire’s play chronicles the true story of the rise and fall of Henri Christophe, a general who was elected president of Haiti after the 1804 revolution but instead declared himself king in hopes of being taken more seriously by the monarchs of Europe.
