Sounds familiar: On a recent PBS documentary, Adolf Hitler was described as someone who needed a constant reminder that he was a man of genius. Even worse, he placed totally incompetent people in prominent positions. Does any of that sound vaguely familiar?
Not so scary: Contrary to recent campaign ads for Richard Irvin, it’s not likely that he’s Gov. Pritzker’s worst nightmare. But it’s entirely possible our leader is fearful that not enough Illinoisians are aware of his success in passing a balanced budget or that the state received its third credit upgrade in less than a year. Good try though, mayor.
It takes a village: Authoritarians don’t come to power alone. They come to power on the backs of men like Kevin McCarthy. Men too weak to adhere to any principle. Too hungry for power to say or do what’s right. And too cowardly to tell the truth. We deserve better!
Moving toward autocracy: So now the Republican Party has voted unanimously to no longer participate in campaign debates. Well, of course not, after Trump made such an utter fool of himself, had no knowledge whatsoever, acted like a bully and made such a bad showing in the last debate year that he wouldn’t even do the last debate. So now they’re going to withdraw everyone and take one more step toward autocracy. Here it is, the press is the enemy of the state, we do not debate others who disagree with us, we just follow the dear leader.
Better explanation: There seems to be confusion about how the Chicago White Sox mascot got the name Southpaw. It’s not so much because Southpaw is a lefty, which his back story does say he is, but because he represents the team that has been located on the great South Side of Chicago since 1901. Only 10 of the 30 current major league parks look north from home plate to the left field foul pole. Since most games are played at night, aligning according to the movement of the summer sun is not necessary.
All pandering, no payoff: Suspending the 2.5 cents gas tax is blatant election year pandering. How stupid does Springfield think we are? Putting $100 of gas in my truck, I’ll save 40 cents. Wow! In a week or two, I’ll have enough to buy that candy bar I’ve had my eye on!
