A 43-year-old Naperville woman is accused of falsifying information on an application for a firearm owner’s identification card, according to a news release from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

Atanda Williams was charged with two felony counts of forgery Monday. She has pleaded not guilty.

Williams allegedly said in her FOID card application that she was not a convicted felon despite twice being convicted of felony forgery, once in 2001 and again in 2004. State law prohibits anyone who has been convicted of a felony from being eligible to receive an FOID card.

Officers executing a search warrant at Williams’ home at the time of her arrest located a loaded gun, which Williams purchased in 2016, according to the release.

Raoul’s office is alleging Williams purchased the firearm using a FOID card she obtained fraudulently in 2014.

“Individuals who lie on FOID applications in order to purchase a firearm should be held accountable,” Attorney General Kwame Raoul said in the release. “I will continue working with the (Illinois State Police) to ensure firearms do not get in the hands of those who legally should not have access to them.”
