Coup comments: Many of the same people who criticize Joe Biden today for suggesting that Vladimir Putin has to go forget their full-throated support of George H. W. Bush when he suggested the Iraqi people should overthrow Saddam Hussein.

Disgusting display: No one has mentioned what the ramifications would have been if Will Smith was Caucasian. One can only imagine. Not only was the slap unwarranted but the language used immediately after was shocking. Smith is appreciably larger than Rock. It was a disgusting display of misplaced machismo. Chris Rock showed quiet aplomb and as for acting chops, I suggest watching his turn in last season’s “Fargo.” He was amazing.

Only took 157 years: Who says we haven’t made gigantic strides in civil rights legislation in this country. It’s only been 157 years since the last shots were fired in the Civil War and already we have a law on the books that makes lynching a federal hate crime.

Nice job, U of I: Kudos to the University of Illinois men’s basketball team on their Big 10 regular-season championship and selection as one of the nation’s top 64 teams in the NCAA Tournament. Despite discouraging lineup juggling injuries — the Andre Corbelo and Kofi Cockburn concussions and Trent Frazier’s eye infection — the Illini played hard for their fans across the state, always supporting each other as they compiled 23 victories. Thanks, team members and Coach Underwood! Go Illini!

Idiotic lunch rules: Our gracious first lady Dr. Jill Biden is hosting a White House luncheon for congressional spouses with one caveat. Despite the fact that fully vaccinated people can contract and spread COVID-19, unvaccinated attendees may not eat or drink and must maintain 6-foot separation from other attendees. When will this idiocy end? Or is it simply to exercise control over those who actually understand facts differently than an authoritarian government?

While male pride: In this modern day upside down world of political correctness and being woke, I am not ashamed, make no apologies nor feel any guilt for being a white Christian, conservative, heterosexual male.

Define ‘experience’: Lately, it seems that there is a push to redefine terminology that de-emphasizes status and emphasizes personal experience. I’ve seen person who is experiencing homelessness written in the newspaper. If a person is experiencing the experience of being homeless, then the person is a homeless person. If they had a home, then they wouldn’t be having the experience!
