A Niles West High School administrator will join Wescott School as an assistant principal, after being formally approved by the Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 board at Thursday’s meeting.

Katie Compagno, director of student activities at Niles West, will become Wescott’s first assistant principal when she joins the Northbrook elementary school in the fall. Compagno’s appointment comes in response to Wescott’s growing student body, which now numbers over 500 students despite initial projections the student body would only be 475 students.

“We really think you’re going to love our district and love Wescott,” board president Nancy Artz said to Compagno.

According to board documents, Compagno was selected from 47 highly-qualified applicants after the job opening was first posted in January and was ultimately selected by a panel of teachers and administrators led by Wescott Principal Chris Brown.

Compagno was hired as a math teacher at Niles West in 2011 and became director of student activities in 2014; she still teaches geometry as well. She has worked as an educator for 12 years.

“It was clear to me that I wanted to be a part of the positive student-centered culture and climate that exists in this District,” Compagno said.

Compagno also received a musical salute by way of perennial meeting attendee James Williams, who played Wescott’s school anthem on the recorder during public comment, while dressed in all green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
