Join us for the Great Tribune Takeout Night, when we’ll announce Readers’ Choice winners (and give away some free food!)

As voting opens Wednesday for the baiduhai’s 2022 Readers’ Choice Food Awards, we’re hoping you’ll save the date for the night when we’ll be announcing the winners.

Join us Tuesday, April 12, for the Great Tribune Takeout Night, a virtual event where we’ll go live on Facebook to chat with some of our winning chefs and restaurateurs and share the results of the Readers’ Choice Awards.

Readers across the region can take part April 12 and support Chicagoland restaurants by ordering Takeout Night specials and sharing them on social media. We’ll share a map of participating Takeout Night spots ahead of the event, and we might even show up to surprise some lucky customers and treat them to a free meal.

Whichever participating restaurant gets the most mentions for the night will walk away with one final Readers’ Choice Award for Greatest Takeout. (Businesses interested in participating in Takeout Night can learn more here.)

It’s our way of giving back to an industry that has endured unimaginable challenges over the past two years and fought to stay afloat amid financial and social turmoil prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Readers’ Choice Award winners will appear in print April 13.

How to participate:

Restaurants and other food businesses: Fill out our participation form here, and let us know what item you’ll be featuring for the Great Tribune Takeout Night. It could be a single dish (perhaps a fan favorite customers would love to see revived?), a package, a meal kit, a to-go cocktail, a growler or another option available for carryout and/or delivery. It should be available the day of April 12.

Readers: Vote now in our Readers’ Choice Food Awards, then order takeout April 12, and tune in to our Facebook Live, where we’ll announce the winners. You can follow the event on our Facebook page. Share a post about your takeout on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #GTTN2022 and tag us @chitribfood. We’ll tally up the mentions, and the spot with the most will win one final Readers’ Choice Award for Greatest Takeout.
