
Only one countywide race in DuPage County — that for the Republican chairman of the County Board nomination — is contested in the June 28 primary.
Peter DiCianni, of Elmhurst, and Greg Hart, of Hinsdale, will vie for the nomination. The winner will face Democrat Deb Conroy, of Elmhurst, in the general election in November.
Because both men filed simultaneously, a lottery to determine ballot order will be held at 9:30 a.m. March 21.
Monday was the last day for candidates to file to have their names appear on the primary ballot, and most of the races in DuPage and Will counties are uncontested.
In DuPage County, Republican incumbent Sheriff James Mendrick, of Woodridge, has no challengers, nor do Republicans Amber Quirk, of Downers Grove, candidate for superintendent of schools; Evelyn Sanguinetti, of Wheaton, candidate for county clerk; and Gwen Henry, of Wheaton, candidate for county treasurer.
In addition to Conroy, Democrats filing for countywide office in DuPage include incumbent clerk Jean Kaczmarek, of Glen Ellyn, and Don Potoczny, of Naperville, for treasurer.
Democratic incumbent Daniel Hebreard, of Woodridge, is seeking reelection as chairman of the DuPage Forest Preserve District Board, and Barbara A. O’Meara, of Naperville, is running for a second term on the forest preserve board in District 5.
Democratic incumbents Amy Chavez and Sadia Covert, both of Naperville, and Dawn DeSart, of Aurora, are seeking to return to the three open District 5 board seats.
Running as Republicans in the primary in District 5 are Naperville Park Board member Richard Janor, Naperville Councilwoman Patty Gustin and Naperville resident Janice Marie Anderson, who served on the county board from 2016-18.
Robert Schillerstrom, of Naperville, is running on the Republican ticket for DuPage Forest Preserve District Board president, and Elizabeth Folk Van Arsdell, also of Naperville, is a candidate for the forest preserve’s District 5 seat.
In Will County, none of countywide primary races are contested.
On the Democratic side seeking reelection are Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry, of Shorewood; Sheriff Mike Kelley, of Lockport; Treasurer Tim Brophy, of Joliet; and Regional School Superintendent Shawn Walsh, of Elwood.

On the Republican ticket are Gretchen Fritz, of Plainfield, for clerk; Jim Reilly, of Wilmington, for sheriff; Raj Pillai, of Plainfield, for treasurer; and Elizabeth Caparelli-Ruff, of Homer Glen, for regional school superintendent.
Based on the reconfigured Will County Board map, incumbent Julie Berkowitcz will be joined by fellow Naperville Republican Vasavi Chakka in pursuing one of the two two-year terms in District 10.
While incumbent Democrat Mimi Cowen is stepping down, incumbent Meta Mueller, of Aurora, is running on the Democratic ticket in the new District 10 as is fellow Naperville Democrat Khadija “D.J.” Sufi, of Naperville.
