Trains were stopped at the Ogilvie Transportation Center Monday afternoon because of a suspicious package, officials said.

By 6:20 p.m., the station was determined to be safe and clear, according to Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Michelle Tannehill. But trains were running up to 2 1/2 hours behind schedule, Metra said.

Just after 4 p.m., officers responded to a call of a suspicious package inside the train station the 500 block of West Madison Street in the West Loop Gate neighborhood, Chicago police said.

The station was evacuated and no injuries were reported, police said. Dogs were also called to the scene.

CTA buses were rerouted and traffic was blocked off northbound on Canal Street from Madison, and eastbound on Washington Street from Clinton Street to Canal, police said.

Michael Gillis, a Metra spokesman,said late Monday afternoon he did not have any details on how the package was found or what it looked liked.
