A Park Ridge man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery last year of employees working in the drive-thru lane of a Niles restaurant.

Connor Erskine, 20, of the 100 block of East Kathleen Drive, was taken into custody Feb. 22 after detectives identified him as one of two people who allegedly robbed two female employees at gunpoint outside Portillo’s, 8832 W. Dempster St., on Sept. 20.

According to Niles police, the employees were taking orders in the restaurant’s drive-thru lane around 12:19 p.m. when they were approached by two men with guns who robbed them of the money belts they were wearing.

Between $600 and $800 was stolen, police said at the time.

Niles Deputy Police Chief Nick Zakula said a “thorough investigation” led detectives to identify Erskine as one of the suspects.

The second suspect has not yet been identified, Zakula said.

Police on Feb. 22 located Erskine at a home in Wheeling where he had been staying and placed him under arrest, police said. Zakula said Erskine resisted the officers by refusing to be handcuffed and pulling his arms away.

Erskine was found in possession of a semi-automatic pistol at the time of his arrest, Zakula said.

According to police, Erskine provided a statement to officers that implicated himself in the Portillo’s robbery.

Erskine was charged with armed robbery with a firearm and three counts of resisting arrest, police said. He remained in Cook County Jail custody this week with bond set at $250,000.
