An armed robbery took place at The Dollar Tree in La Grange Park, 355 N. La Grange Road, late Thursday evening (Feb. 10), police said.
The suspect is still at large.
“We’re investigating right now and reviewing security cameras,” Commander Fran Marrocco told The Doings, urging anyone with relevant information to call the La Grange Park Police Investigative Unit at 708-352-7700, ext. 207.
At approximately 8:50 p.m. a suspect described as a Black male wearing all black clothing entered the store, walked up to an employee manning a cash register, allegedly displayed a handgun and demanded cash from the register.
Besides the all-black outfit, the suspect also wore an orange surgical mask and sported a knit hat with the words “security” written in front, Marrocco said.

After complying with his demands, two employees were herded into a back room where the store’s safe was located, where the man allegedly demanded the contents of the safe. They complied.
Once he had an undisclosed amount of cash from both spots, the suspect fled. There are no other witnesses reported at this time, and no description was forthcoming about an escape vehicle.
Neither employee was injured.
“We are out canvassing the area now,” Marrocco said.
Marrocco also said that the suspect was considered armed and dangerous and advised citizens to exercise extreme caution if they somehow encountered him.
“We don’t want anyone approaching this individual,” Marrocco said. “If somehow he does confront anyone, listen to his demands, comply, let him get away, and then call us.”
