Southland towns to get planning boost
The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning will be providing planning assistance to Dolton, Dixmoor, and Harvey and other communities to help those towns advance long-term planning goals as part of the agency’s new technical assistance projects.
CMAP will be working with Harvey officials on developing a comprehensive plan, covering issues like housing, flooding and transportation access. The agency also will be working on separate projects with Dolton and Dixmoor to increase their capacity to pursue additional grants and funding opportunities.
The initiative is part of a larger technical assistance program involving more than 20 communities throughout northeastern Illinois. CMAP staff will work to strengthen resiliency, prioritize investment and support inclusive development.
Selected projects include comprehensive planning with Harvey officials to leverage the city’s transportation network for a more prosperous future. CMAP will help develop recommendations to diversify housing options, reduce neighborhood flooding and strengthen residents’ access to opportunity and key destinations in southern Cook County. Other projects will help develop plans to pursue greater infrastructure investments in Dolton and Dixmoor.
CMAP staff also will work with officials in Ford Heights, Lynwood and University Park on taking next steps to implement ideas that can improve quality of life, transportation and land-use decisions.
