A Chicago woman has been charged with prostitution following an undercover police investigation at a Wilmette business where she worked, authorities said.
Zhenyuan Li, 49, of Chicago, was charged with misdemeanor prostitution Jan. 20 after she allegedly propositioned an officer for a sex act at Asian Spa, 921 Ridge Road in Wilmette, police announced in a news release Friday. Jan. 21
According to the release, Li’s arrest came after Wilmette police identified a new business in the village that was advertising “massage services” on prostitution- related websites. On Jan. 20, an undercover officer got a massage at Asian Spa and during the massage the officer was propositioned for a sexual act in exchange for money.
Additional officers then entered the spa and arrested Li without incident, the release states. She is the listed owner and sole occupant of the business, police said. Authorities also said the spa is not lawfully allowed to operate at this time and is closed for business.
Li was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 23 at the Skokie courthouse, the release states.
