QuestBridge scholarships awarded to Southland seniors
For the second year in a row, three Southland College Prep Charter High School seniors earned a cumulative total of nearly $1 million in four-year full scholarships to top universities from the QuestBridge National College Match Program.
Olumide Adesioye, Lela Ellis and Davida Jones were selected as Match Scholarship Recipients out of 6,312 finalists and more than 16,500 applicants. The students have earned “full ride,” four-year scholarships, including tuition, fees, room and board, and other expenses with no loans to Brown University, the University of Chicago and Scripps College, respectively.
10 from Troop 637 recognized as Eagle Scouts
Father Perez Knights of Columbus Council No. 1444 saluted 10 Boy Scouts from Troop 637 during a Court of Honor in December at Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Evergreen Park.
They earned the Eagle Scout designation, which is the highest achievement or rank attainable in Boy Scouts of America. They are now among the only 4% of Scouts who have earned this rank after a lengthy and challenging review process.
The new Eagle Scouts are Brian McCann, Ryan Arbage, John Mikrut and Zach Mikrut of Brother Rice High School; Jack Sullivan and Joe Lotti of Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences; and Brendan Rayl of Marist High School. Justin Lee, a Marist graduate now at Lewis University; Stephen Lynch, a Brother Rice graduate now at Michigan State; and Luke Manning, a St. Rita of Cascia alumnus now at University of Dayton, were entitled to an Eagle Court of Honor in 2020 and because of COVID they received the tributes during this Court of Honor.
Each scout received an official certificate of achievement issued by the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council.
Homewood’s Holman joins Cozen O’Connor’s Group

Sydney Corryn Holman, a Homewood native and graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School, is joining Cozen O’Connor’s Public Strategies Group in Chicago.
Holman joins the firm as a principal. She arrives from Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s office, where she was deputy director of Legislative Affairs and a house liaison.
While working for the governor, she lobbied in areas of pensions and business reform, gaming initiatives, higher education issues and health care accessibility. She also managed several issues pertaining to college accessibility, K-12 education protocol, health care affordability and business enterprise programs.
Flossmoor’s Dudley receives $20,500 scholarship
Flossmoor’s Jeffon Dudley has been named a recipient of the McAllaster Honors Scholarship. This Greenville University $20,500 scholarship is offered for fall 2022 and is renewable annually.
