Country Club Hills detectives and a violent crimes fugitive task force from the FBI on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old Markham man they said is responsible for the deaths of two Country Club Hills brothers who were shot in October inside their own home.

De Armani Green, of the 3600 block of Sunset Avenue, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, according to a news release issued Friday by Country Club Hills police.

Green used a 9 mm gun to shoot both Clarence Whalum, 22, and Kimani Whalum, 20, on Oct. 5 inside their residence in the 19000 block of Farm Crest Terrace, according to police Chief John Galvin. Police were called there at 7:30 p.m. for a report of a home invasion and found the brothers with gunshot wounds inside. They were taken to area hospitals and later pronounced dead.

Kimani Whalum was pronounced dead at 8:26 p.m. Oct. 5 at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields, and Clarence Whalum was pronounced dead at 9:11 p.m. the same evening at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Galvin said Green was an acquaintance of the brothers, and the motive for the murders appears to be related to personal property.

Traci Rogers, the mother of the two men, told multiple media outlets in October that other family members were home at the time and witnessed the shootings. Galvin confirmed at the time that other people were present.

Police said they also received valuable information through an anonymous tip line and assistance from the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

Green was taken into custody in the 500 block of East 33rd Place in Chicago at a residence Galvin said belongs to a female acquaintance of Green. Police said they recovered a number of weapons, including more than a half-dozen guns, upon execution of a search warrant.
