I needed a good laugh
In regards to the reader who commented about shootings in Evanston Waukegan and Zion, saying, “None of this garbage happened until the Democrats took over”: Thank you sir or madam. I needed a good laugh. I would, however, like to know how someone in a padded room with a straightjacket on got through to the Talk of the County.

Enabling is not empowering
It’s interesting that both sides, left and right, will say they want good schools and educational opportunities for their children. They want good neighborhoods to live in without crime. They want good employment opportunities. They want affordable medical access. They want reasonable cost of food and transportation. Yet, if someone feels it’s best to expect someone to work toward achieving those goals versus just being handed it, we’re told we’re racist. How is it racist to expect people to earn and take pride in what they have? To want to be recognized for their actual skills, efforts and knowledge, and not just benefiting from something because of their color? When you take away someone’s desire to accomplish something on their own, you take away their independence, you cripple their ability to function in life long after those “supporting” them are gone. Enabling is not empowering.
You are the problem
To those who are unvaccinated: You are the sole reason we continue to have to wear masks and social distance. You are the sole reason people continue to get infected. You are the sole reason loved ones continue to die. You are the sole reason we continue to have variants popping up. You are the problem.
We should be able to choose
This is to “Mandate wanted”: You have a choice whether or not to work. If you are afraid of a virus that will never go away, and you insist on mandates for vaccination, then stay home but don’t expect the government to continue to pay you for no work. The government has created fear of living from something that is here to stay. They have been herding us like sheep so they can be completely in control of our lives. We can choose where to apply for jobs. We can choose what kind of health care to pursue. We can choose where to purchase a house, or what kind of a car to drive. We can even choose whether or not to kill an unborn child. We should be able to choose whether or not to be vaccinated.
Remember?
All presidents have advisers who help them make a decision, right or wrong. Remember the long wait for Trump to choose a running mate for vice president? Remember Trump saying he can do the job by himself?
Just do it
No vaccine has ever been 100% effective. Fully vaccinated and boostered, there’s still a, say, 10% chance that I could catch COVID from you. My case would probably be mild. But, before my symptoms appeared, I’d be actively exposing all of the people around me to COVID, which would obviously include those who are not vaccinated. Of the patients currently dying of COVID in U.S. hospitals, 99% are unvaccinated. So for me, for you, just do it.
