Naperville School District 203 and Indian Prairie School District 204 will begin their 2022-23 school years on Aug. 18, the districts announced this week.

Calendars for next school year were approved by both districts’ school boards, with District 203 also approving the calendar for the 2023-24 school year.

Despite having the same start date, Indian Prairie’s school year will end one week later than District 203’s because of a difference in the length of spring breaks and other factors.

Indian Prairie’s last day of class will be June 2, 2023, whereas District 203 will end the year on May 23.

Indian Prairie’s spring break will be longer than Naperville 203’s. While both districts will have the last week of March off, District 203 students will return to class on Monday, April 3, and Indian Prairie students on Wednesday, April 5.

Because April 4 is Election Day, when many schools are used as polling places, District 203 is planning to do e-learning that day.

District 204’s Brad Hillman, assistant superintendent of middle schools, said they decided to delay the start of classes after spring break instead so students weren’t back one day, home the next and then back again on the third. Also complicating the week a day off is scheduled for Friday, he said.

“By extending spring break to have students returning on Wednesday, we avoid the awkward return to school,” Hillman said.

Naperville 203 has also scheduled Feb. 28, 2023, as a tentative e-learning day should there be a need for a runoff primary election prior to the April general election.

Other calendar highlights include:

Both districts will be off Dec. 23, 2022, through Jan. 6, 2023, for winter break, with students returning Jan. 9;

District 204 students will be off all of Thanksgiving week, with the Monday before Thanksgiving being used for parent/teacher conferences;

District 203 will be off Wednesday through Friday of Thanksgiving week;

District 203’s 2023-24 school year begins Aug. 17, 2023, and ends May 23, 2024.
