A Vernon Hills resident was struck and killed recently in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Half Day Road, state police confirmed.

The man, identified as Joseph Lee, 24, was killed that Thursday afternoon after he was struck in a lane of traffic by a passing motor vehicle, officials with the Lake County Coroner’s Office told Pioneer Press.

As a result of the death, the right two lanes of I-94 were closed off for nearly three hours, officials with the Illinois State Police said.

The Lake Forest Fire Department also responded to the call, officials with the department confirmed.
