A 64-year-old Palos Heights man who was reported missing Sunday was found Tuesday in the Cal Sag canal.

The man was reported missing Sunday by his family after he did not return home from a walk. Police received numerous tips, some from as far as Milwaukee, before a tipster called saying they noticed something suspicious in the canal, Palos Heights police Deputy Chief Mike Yott said.

Due to the location of where the body was located, the Illinois State Police is handing the death investigation, Yott said. However, police do not believe there are any threat to the community nor do they suspect foul play in the death, Yott said.

“With the information available to our department at this time, we do not believe there are any threat(s) to our community,” police said in a news release.

Police officials extended their thanks to community members and various agencies including the Orland Park Police Department, Cook County sheriff’s office, Cook County Forest Preserve police, DuPage County sheriff’s office, GAK9 National Training Center and the Illinois State Police in trying to locate Skoczen.

Yott said the investigation remains open as police continue to piece together details of the disappearance and death.
