Cars rolled through the streets of neighboring northwest suburbs Sunday, ending in a park where an oversized menorah was lit, all as part of a parade that celebrated the first night of Hanukkah.
The “Chanukah Menorah Parade,” hosted by Northwest Suburban Chabad, was held on the first night of the Jewish holiday. The parade was set to roll from Aptakisic Road in Prairie View into Mike Rylko Park in Buffalo Grove.
Vehicles were decorated with menorahs during the parade, and the family-friendly event was also set to include latkes, dreidels and a LED light and fire show – among other activities.

The parade in Buffalo Grove was among a number of area events held Sunday to mark the start of the eight-day holiday. Other menorah lightings and activities were also held in such places as Arlington Heights and Vernon Hills.
Hanukkah, also spelled “Chanukah,” is the Jewish wintertime “festival of lights” that is celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods, according to the Northwest Suburban Chabad website.
