Palos South’s Rageb spends a day as city attorney

An essay written by Palos South Middle School eighth grader Omar Ragab earned him the opportunity to be city attorney for a day this fall for the city of Palos Heights.

The Palos Heights Woman’s Club selected his essay as part of its annual Mayor for a Day essay contest.

In addition to serving as city attorney, Ragab also took part in a mock city council meeting with the other contest winners that was broadcast Oct. 19 on Palos Heights Public Television Channel 4. He also received a plaque and certificate and was treated to a pizza dinner at Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens.

Ragab said that he was glad he was able to be city attorney for the day since he hopes to go to college to study law and become a lawyer.

Video of the full mock city council meeting can be viewed at www.palosheights.org.
