A major renovation of Springbrook Golf Course, an outdoor fitness court at Frontier Sports Complex and a new park for the Naper Commons subdivision are among $13.1 million in capital projects included in Naperville Park District’s proposed 2022 budget.
The park district unveiled its $44.5 million spending plan this week for public viewing. It will be discussed at the Nov. 11 Naperville Park Board meeting before a final vote is taken in December.
Of the $13.1 million in capital improvements, about $1.9 million is earmarked for new parks and new park amenities and renovations; $4.7 million for smaller projects, like building renovations, fencing and parking lot repairs; and $3.8 million for work on the district’s two golf courses, Springbrook and Naperbrook.
The vast majority of the golf course money — $3.3 million — will be spent on new tees, bunkers and path at Springbrook, which will require the 2220 83rd St. course to be closed from August 2022 through May 2023. Only the course’s practice area will be open during the renovation.
Proposed 2022 parks and park amenities include:
$520,000 for a new playground and basketball court at Naper Commons Park in the Naper Commons subdivision, with the recreational open space being donated by the developer;
$160,000 for an outdoor fitness court at Frontier Sports Complex just south of the 95th Street Community Plaza parking lot, in collaboration with the National Fitness Campaign group;
$230,000 for a playground at the new Heritage Place Park in the Heritage Place subdivision, with the recreational open space being donated by the developer.
Proposed park renovations include:
$230,000 to renovate the playground at A. George Pradel Park;
$200,000 to renovate the playground at Eagle Park;
$65,000 to repair the basketball court at Heatherstone Park;
$200,000 to renovate the playground at Kendall Park;
$200,000 to renovate the playground at Tall Grass Lakes;
$65,000 to repair the basketball court at Wil-O-Way Park.
