A Des Plaines man has been arrested in Florida on a nationwide warrant in connection with an August 21 fatal hit and run crash in Glenview that took the life of a Wheeling man, authorities said Thursday.

Ewelina F. Pikulska, 40, of the 8900 block of North Western Avenue in Des Plaines, was arrested in Florida on a nationwide warrant for “leaving the scene of an accident involving death” stemming from an investigation into an August 21 fatal hit and run crash involving a car and a bicycle near Sanders Road and South Parkway Drive in Glenview, Glenview police said in a statement Thursday.

Trinidad Salgado, 59, Wheeling, was the cyclist killed in the crash which happened in the north suburb shortly after 3 a.m., police said.

An investigation by Glenview police revealed that Pikulska was in Okaloosa County, Florida, the statement said. It said Pikulska was taken into custody by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and is awaiting extradition to Illinois.

In the weeks following the crash police said they believed the suspect vehicle was a Grey or Silver 2017-2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, with damage to the front driver’s side headlight and front bumper.

The statement released by Glenview police on Thursday said no further details of the investigation will be released until completion of extradition and “formal charging” of Pikulska by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. It also thanked the Okaloosa County, FL. Sheriff’s Office for its assistance.
