Inundated by Kit Kat ads: Here’s a helpful tip: you’ll know that you’ve been watching too much commercial TV when you find yourself swearing off Kit Kat bars for the remainder of your life!
Just don’t read ’em: You know you’re only getting older when every person on the celebrity birthday list in your morning newspaper is younger than you are!
Suppression of speech: I’m not a supporter of public employee unions, and I am a supporter of everyone being vaccinated. However, the Constitution of the United States does guarantee the right to free speech. The Cook County judge that issued a restraining order to prohibit the Chicago police union president from telling members not to report their vaccination status should be overruled on appeal. Unfortunately, too many judges think they have the right to suppress speech with which they don’t agree.
Slanting history: The left continues to sow the seeds of discord and the Columbus holiday is no exception. The so-called tensions concerning the holiday reported in the AP article in the Columbus Day edition are nothing more than the cancel culture at work attempting to vilify one of the founders of this great country. Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day ignores the violence perpetrated by these people on each other and the settlers of this country. The left’s slanted narrow version of history does a major disservice to the greatest nation in the history of the world, and for what purpose?
Time to part ways: The White Sox did not advance past the first playoff series in 2020 and Rick Renteria was fired. The White Sox had a better team on paper in 2021 but they also did not advance past the first playoff series in 2021. Shouldn’t Tony La Russa be fired?
Sky win well deserved: Congratulations to the Chicago Sky on their national championship. They deserve every accolade. I hope the city of Chicago celebrates their championship with parades and feats of glory as has been done in the past for the men. Congratulations, ladies. You are the best.

Sign of the times: A writer in a recent Speak Out column espoused that the company and the people responsible for the oil spills in our lakes and oceans be hung from the nearest pole or tree. Regardless of the cause of a spill, whether due to negligence or accident, the writer’s extreme intolerance is symptomatic of the problem plaguing our country today.
