A 16-year-old has been charged as an adult in connection with an Elgin shooting early Sunday morning in which a juvenile was critically injured, the Kane County State’s Attorney Office said.

Despite facing a charge of attempted murder, a class X felony, the state’s attorney office is not releasing the teen’s identity because his age makes him a juvenile, a news release said.

He is accused of firing multiple shots in the area of East Chicago and North Geneva streets, striking the victim four times, the release said. The injuries were life-threatening and the juvenile remains hospitalized.

The teen has also been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, both felonies.

Bail has been set at $500,000. His next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 15.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information should call the Elgin Police Department at 847-289-2600.
