It is still early October, but Montgomery officials already have Halloween clearly in sight.

The Montgomery Police Department will host its annual Halloween safety event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at the police department’s campus at 10 Civic Center Ave. in Montgomery.

.The event will take place entirely outdoors to ensure social distancing and safety for the participants, officials said. This year the event will feature three local food trucks, games, crafts, giveaways and safety education.

Visitors are encouraged to wear costumes and can participate in a traditional costume contest complete with trophies, according to officials. Additional information is available on the village website at MontgomeryIL.org and the Montgomery Police Department’s Facebook page.

Also in Montgomery, residents can take part in the Halloween Display Contest, designed to recognize homes, complete neighborhoods and even area businesses for their Halloween displays. The Montgomery Beautification Committee is hosting the contest.

Residents can nominate themselves or a neighbor for the contest at MontgomeryIL.org. Nominations will be taken through Oct. 17.

On the night of Oct. 20, the homes will be judged by Montgomery Beautification Committee members, with signs placed in the yards of the winners.
