A World War II veteran as well as a long-time Fox Valley veterans advocate who passed away this summer will be honored Friday night as part of a performance by the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America’s Starlifter group at Venue 1012, Oswego’s new outdoor entertainment pavilion at 1012 Station Drive.

Starlifter, a seven-piece ensemble of active duty Air Force musicians, will perform a free concert from 6:30 to 8 Friday. The show was rescheduled after an original date in May was rained-out during Oswego Honors Veterans Week, Oswego Community Engagement Coordinator Julie Hoffman said.

Starlifter performs a wide range of musical styles including rock, pop, jazz and country as well as traditional patriotic songs, officials said.

As part of the event, Village President Troy Parlier will be pay tribute to the late Herschel Luckinbill, a longtime Fox Valley veterans advocate and U.S. Navy veteran who brought the Middle East Wall of Conflict to Oswego in May and the Vietnam Moving Wall to Oswego in 2017.

Luckinbill also chaired the Aurora Veterans Council that brought the Vietnam Moving Wall to Aurora in 2013.

Luckinbill died July 28 soon after moving from his Montgomery home to Tennessee.

Parlier will also pay tribute to World WarII Navy veteran Richard Miller. Miller, 95, will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance prior to the group’s performance Friday night.
