Six years after #OscarsSoWhite, the Emmys put on a sequel.

Despite a record 44% of 2021 acting nominations going to performers of color, white actors swept the trophies at Sunday’s award show in all 12 lead and supporting races for comedy, drama and limited series.

The domination by “Ted Lasso” and “The Crown,” both with overwhelmingly white casts, didn’t help the diversity, but Michael K. Williams had been a strong favorite for supporting actor in a drama for his role in “Lovecraft Country,” even before his death.

Instead, Tobias Menzies took home the award for his role as Prince Philip in “The Crown.”

Michael K. Williams, Mj Rodriguez and Michaela Coel all lost to white actors.

“To the ‘allies’ who told me that they are losing jobs to diversity & there is too much diversity in TV PLEASE look at the winners of tonights Emmy,” tweeted “One Day at a Time” creator Gloria Calderón Kellett. “Who got extensive budgets & campaigns? Still so much work to do for actual equality. Glad to be on the Exec committee to make change.”

“Pose” star Mj Rodriguez was an underdog in the lead actor in a drama category and would have been the first transgender performer to win before being being bested by Olivia Colman, also of “The Crown.”

Billy Porter, the glamorous Pray Tell on “Pose,” lost to Josh O’Connor for his sniveling portrayal of Prince Charles on “The Crown,” and Brett Goldstein of “Ted Lasso” beat Carl Clemons-Hopkins (“Hacks”), Kenan Thompson (“Saturday Night Live”) and Bowen Yang (“Saturday Night Live”) for supporting actor in a comedy.

Beyond Williams, “Lovecraft Country” was left out entirely outside of a Creative Emmys win for Courtney B. Vance, as both stars Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors were both snubbed.

Other non-white nominees who went home empty handed included “The Flight Attendant’s” Rosie Perez, “Bridgerton’s” Regé-Jean Page and the cast of “Hamilton.”

Barry Jenkins’ “The Underground Railroad” was also shut out, as was “A Black Lady Sketch Show.”

Michaela Coel became a critical darling for “I May Destroy You,” but only took home one trophy, for writing on a limited series.

“Write the tale that scares you, that makes you feel uncertain, that is uncomfortable. I dare you,” Coel said from the stage during her acceptance speech.

“In a world that entices us to browse through the lives of others to help us better determine how we feel about ourselves, and to in turn still the need to be constantly visible, for visibility these days seems to somehow equate to success. Do not be afraid to disappear, from it, from us, for a while and see what comes to you in the silence.”

The evening was made even more awkward by host Cedric the Entertainer’s opening monologue to start the show.

“The good news is there are a lot of Black people nominated tonight,” the comedian said early in the evening. “Like my dawg Anthony Anderson … This is Anthony’s 11th nomination but tonight he’s up against Michael Douglas and Ted Lasso. So good luck, partner, but I gotta say, looks like it’s still hard out here for a pimp.”

Anderson, who stars in “black-ish,” did, in fact, lose to Sudeikis.
