PoTAYto, PoTAHto: Several Republicans in Congress are now defending the insurrectionists of Jan. 6 as peaceful demonstrators. Yeah, sure. And those Nazi storm troopers in the 1930s were simply lovers of a good parade!
Don’t mess with existing jobs: I am a proud single father of three kids. For me, a job with flexible hours is critical to give my kids the opportunity to succeed. I have been driving for Uber for six years. However, policies that put limits on surge pricing have a direct effect on my ability to provide for my family. I have seen recent coverage about how ride-sharing prices have increased. While the city and the country continue discussions about ways to get more jobs and better jobs to people of color, we shouldn’t be looking at policies that hurt those of us who have found a way.
Here’s a thought: In the newspaper it said Chicago offers a $100 gift card for getting a shot. Well how about this, Chicago offers $200 for all those people who did get a shot? I think that’s more reasonable.
Don’t do it, Brian Kelly: The record for wins set by the legend of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, the late football coach Knute Rockne, is coming to an end. Former coaches Frank Leahy, Ara Parseghian and Lou Holtz all stopped because they honored coach Rockne. Now coach Brian Kelly is a few wins away from tying Rockne for most wins all-time by a Notre Dame coach. The Rock is watching you, Kelly. You’re going to carry a heavy cross.
La Russa screwing up: I don’t like the fact that Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa changes the lineups every game. It’s different every time. There’s no consistency. The first half of the season he didn’t do it that much and they won 50-plus games. In the second half he’s been changing the lineups like he doesn’t know what’s going on. To me, changing a lineup that often means the manager isn’t coherent. Please have him stop changing the lineups that often. We need consistency, especially now.
Not real rifles: To the reader who complained about guns in the Bud Billiken Parade in Chicago, the drill team was carrying rifles, not guns. Those rifles were not real. They’re just there for show. It wasn’t like they were carrying AK-47s. That’s part of the drill. We had it at boot camp when I was in the U.S. Navy. You carried rifles that didn’t work or were unusable. It had nothing to do with gang violence or gun violence. Let them go. They’re doing a good job.
