player ready...More than 100 Naperville-area high school students have been named semifinalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship program.
The local high school seniors are among about 16,000 across the country to make it to this level. About about 95% of the semifinalists will become finalists and about half of those will win a National Merit Scholarship and the title of National Merit Scholar, scholarship officials said.
Scholarship winners will be announced in spring 2022.

In order to be considered for semifinalist status, students must have taken the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as high school juniors.
To move to the finalist level, semifinalist and one of their high school officials must submit a scholarship application detailing academic record, school and community service participation, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards.
A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, receive endorsements/recommendations from a high school official, write an essay, and earn high SAT or ACT scores.
