Kane County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a hit-and-run crash in an unincorporated area of St. Charles Township near South Elgin that left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.
Deputies responded to Route 25 and Gilbert Street at about 4:15 p.m. Monday for the crash, which was captured on video, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the release, the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Route 25 and was stopped at the intersection when a red or maroon SUV approached the motorcycle from behind at a high rate of speed. The SUV struck the motorcycle and drove away from the scene north on Route 25, according to the release.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 72-year-old St. Charles resident, was transported to an Elgin-area hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, according to the news release.
The SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee, has front-end damage, officials said.
