An Elmwood Park resident was carjacked late Monday night on her driveway, Elmwood Park police said.
The woman, whose age was not being released, was in her car around 11:30 p.m. at her home on the 1700 block of North 79th Avenue in Elmwood Park when two armed men approached and ordered her out of her Volvo, according to Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano.
The woman was not hurt, and the car, which had a GPS system activated, was later located on the 1600 block of North Avers Avenue in Chicago’s Humboldt Park Neighborhood, Fagiano said. As of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made.
Fagiano said unlike neighboring Oak Park, which has experienced 18 carjackings this year, including two this month, Monday night’s incident was the first in Elmwood Park.
“This is an isolated incident; we haven’t had any carjackings in Elmwood Park,” Fagiano said.
He said that there was no surveillance video near the victim’s home but that the Elmwood Park police have reached out to the Cook County Sheriff’s police for assistance.
“We are utilizing all our resources to investigate this. We’re still working on it,” Fagiano said.
