Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets will opened this week in Orland Park.

The company’s newest store is its eighth location and the first in the south suburbs. It opened Wednesday at 11333 W. 159th St.

“We are very pleased to be in Orland Park,” Caputo’s CEO Robertino Presta said in Nov. when plans were announced it would be moving in to the former Berkot’s store. “I’ve worked at the store since I was 13-years-old. My father-in-law, Angelo Caputo, is 88-years-old and is still out and about at the stores. For all of these years … customers keep asking if we can come out to Orland Park.”

As part of the agreement to bring them to Orland Park, the Village Board unanimously approved giving the business a 50% rebate on sales tax generated at the store for 10 years. The agreement also includes the Orland Park Commercial Impact Program that allows for 25% reduction on permit and related fees. The redevelopment project bringing a new, full-service grocer to the location brings with it a $7 million investment in Orland Park.

Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Market has been owned and operated by the Angelo Caputo Family since 1958. Their first store opened in Elmwood Park, at the corner of Harlem and Wrightwood.

Other locations are in Naperville, Addison, South Elgin, Hanover Park, Elmwood Park, Carol Stream, and Bloomingdale.

The building has a history of being a grocery store. It opened first as a Bobak’s grocery store and the plaza was known as Bobak Plaza. After Bobak’s closed, Green Food and Produce occupied the space for a time. Then Mokena-based Berkot’s moved in for a few years before moving out.

Orland Chick-fil-A closes for remodeling

Chick-fil-A in Orland Park will close Friday to begin a remodeling project expected to last about 12 weeks.

The restaurant at 15605 S. LaGrange Road announced it expects to reopen around the beginning of December.

The work was approved earlier this year by the Orland Park Village Board as part of a plan to lessen traffic congestion in the area.

Plans are to add a second lane to its drive-thru, just parallel to the existing one and extending it down the lot. Also, Chick-fil-A will be installing an attached canopy that will extend from the building’s south elevation over the existing single lane drive-thru. Additionally, the business plans to construct an 85-square-foot addition at the southeast corner of the building to accommodate some improvements to their kitchen, speeding up production.

The restaurant opened in 2011.

Burlington set to open new Tinley store

Burlington, which has closed its longtime store at 7061 W. 159th St. in Tinley Park will mark its move to newer, smaller digs just around the corner in the new Tinley Park Plaza with a Sept. 17 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Burlington moved into its current home after Kmart moved out in 1995 into a space at 16300 S. Harlem Ave. That site closed a few years ago and is going to be turned into a warehouse for Pete’s Fresh Market.

Burlington’s business neighbor, Hobby Lobby, is expected to remain in its half of the former Kmart.

The Burlington space is not expected to be empty for long as Tinley officials have said a Floor & Décor store will be taking over the space.

Atlanta-based Floor & Decor is a specialty retailer of hard surface flooring, offering tile, wood, stone, related tools and flooring accessories. The company was founded in 2000. It has eight Chicago area locations, but the Tinley store would be its first in the south suburbs. The closest store is in southwest suburban Countryside.

Village officials have said Floor & Décor is expected to bring more than 100 full-time jobs when it moves into the 70,000-square-foot space.

BMO Harris Bank to close Summit location

BMO Harris Bank has sent a letter to customers letting them know the bank will permanently close its Summit branch in December.

The branch at 7549 W. 63rd St. will close its full-service location Dec. 4, but the drive-thru facility across the street at 7601 W. 63rd St. will remain open.

The letter went out to customers last week. Customers were told all accounts will be automatically transferred to the branch in Chicago’s Clearing neighborhood at 6343 W. 63rd St.

BMO Harris said customers don’t need to take any action, and that the account numbers and checks will remain unchanged. Any direct deposits or pre-authorized payments will continue without interruption.

The letter did state that if a customer has a safe-deposit box, the owner of the box will need to go to the Summit branch no later than Nov. 19 to remove the contents or call the bank to make other arrangements.

The building is advertised as being for sale on the loopnet.com website. No asking price was included.

Auto mechanics strike enters sixth week

As the strike by members of the Automobile Mechanics Local 701 against members of the NCDC enters its sixth week, there has been little movement by either side. Four years ago, the strike lasted almost seven weeks.
