A Libertyville School District 70 board member resigned last month, and the board is looking to name a replacement in the coming weeks.

Board member Maura Kennedy, who had served on the board since April 2019, stepped down Aug. 23, and officials said she did not provide a reason.

The school board will now move to fill the vacancy either before or at the Sept. 27 board meeting, officials said.

Board President Wendy Schilling announced the resignation at the Aug. 23 meeting, stating that she had been told that evening of Kennedy’s departure.

No further comments were given by the board, and district officials said there was not a reason provided for the resignation.

Kennedy could not be reached by Pioneer Press for comment.

The board is now accepting applications through Friday to fill the seat and has reserved Sept. 21 for interviews if necessary, according to a district news release. Those interested in applying must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter, a resident of Illinois and have been in the district for at least one year, according to the release.

SD70 is an elementary school district based in Libertyville that enrolls more than 2,200 students in pre-K to eighth grade across five school. The school board has seven members.
