7-Eleven under construction in Tinley Park

There is new signage at the southwest corner of 167th Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park for a 7-Eleven convenience store and Mobil gas station under construction.

Vequity LLC is building a 3,511-square-foot convenience store and canopy area with 10 vehicle fueling stations.

As part of the project, two abandoned homes just to the south of the site were torn down.

The project is slated to be completed later this year.

Indoor golf range eyes Palos Heights

The Palos Heights Council unanimously voted Aug. 17 to grant a liquor license to Haven Indoor Golf, which expects to open an indoor golf range at 12317 S. Harlem Ave. in the fall.

The facility will offer food and drinks along with four golfing bays.

The business plans on being open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the fall and winter with reduced hours in the spring and summer when golfers will more likely be on actual links instead of virtual courses.

The business said area schools with golf programs are expected to practice at the facility.

Cal City locksmith building hit by car

The front of Mika Locksmiths in Calumet City has been boarded up since last week when a car suffered a mechanical failure and crashed into the building.

The 60-year-old company is still open and customers can use the side door until repairs can be made to the front of the building.

The company serves Calumet City, Lansing, South Holland and other nearby communities.

More dealers ratify contract with mechanics union

As the strike by members of the Automobile Mechanics Local 701 against members of the NCDC enters its fifth week, the union announced last week that all non-NCDC dealerships have agreed to contract terms.

Dealerships that have recently come to terms with the union include Oak Lawn Toyota, Mazda of Orland Park, Roesch Auto Body, Roesch Volkswagen, Roesch Chrysler Jeep Dodge, and Golf Mill Chevrolet.

The membership at these locations has overwhelmingly approved these agreements, the union said August 27.

Local 701 voted overwhelmingly to authorize the strike, which began at midnight August 1.

The same union workers were on strike for nearly seven weeks in 2017 before both sides agreed on a four-year deal.

Striking workers have free COBRA insurance coverage through Sept. 30.
