Thank you for stepping up: It is encouraging that in recent days, we have heard of significantly increased numbers of vaccinations against COVID-19. To those who have recently stepped up, thank you. Chances are, you know of others who have not yet agreed to the vaccine: please tell them of your decision and your reasons. It is one of the ways we can support those who have given so much of themselves to the care of the sick and protect our fellow citizens.

Cult leader in Florida: Gov. Ron DeSantis reminds me so much of the Rev. Jim Jones, the cult leader who led his followers to their deaths by cyanide poisoning over 40 years ago. He promotes treatment of COVID-19 with drugs that are only effective if administered within a small window after the infection is diagnosed. He has totally politicized the entire pandemic and has turned a public health issue into a personal freedom issue. So you can follow the governor’s advice or you can follow Donald Trump’s example and get the vaccine.

Making things worse: President Biden’s plan to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for all staff in nursing homes is a big mistake. They are already short on staff. Those staff who oppose getting vaccinated, for whatever reason, will choose to get fired and collect unemployment compensation.

History vs. Trump history: It amazes me how Trump supporters rewrite history. They wipe out the fact he negotiated the withdrawal with the Taliban, gave them a time table for it, wanted to meet with them at Camp David and the insurrections on Jan. 6 were just tourists looking around. What history will they wipe out next?

Here’s how it works: When in office, former President Obama referred to his white mother and grandmother who raised him. No, he did not constantly remind us that he was half white or biracial. Why should he? One reason he’s considered Black is because no matter how much white blood he has in him, his Black father’s bloodline takes center stage and he is known as the first Black president of America.

Good luck on Chicago expressways: This is a suburban code red alert to all drivers and passengers on any expressways going in, near, through or around Chicago. We are now bull’s-eye targets. Stay vigilant. Be aware of your surroundings. Remember the 911 police phone reporting. And pray to get out of the area ASAP. Godspeed to all.
