The investigation into a fatal shooting of a 67-year-old retired teacher from Orland Park on the Dan Ryan Expressway Tuesday night is ongoing, Illinois State Police said Thursday.

Troopers patrolling in the area of southbound Interstate 94 near 67th Street heard shots fired close by about 10:07 p.m. Tuesday. Initial reports found the shooting happened on the southbound expressway near 63rd Street affecting two vehicles.
Denise Huguelet was one of three passengers in one of the vehicles. She sustained life-threatening injuries after being hit by gunfire and later died at a hospital. The two other passengers, a 67-year-old woman and 67-year-old man, both of Homer Glen, were uninjured as well as the driver of the car, a 67-year-old man from Orland Park, according to a news release Wednesday night.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 29-year-old Chicago woman, sustained minor injuries as a result of debris, while the passenger of the second vehicle, a 25-year-old Chicago woman, was uninjured.
State police air personnel also responded to the shooting and located a car speeding away from the scene during an aerial search. The car was stopped after a brief pursuit, and two people were taken into custody. Troopers also recovered a firearm from the car, state police said.
State police did not say Thursday if the people taken into custody were involved in the shooting.
Huguelet was returning from a Chicago White Sox game when the shooting happened.
She worked as a special education teacher at Central Middle School for 24 years. Her husband, Michael, is a former Orland Park prosecutor.
Police also Thursday could not confirm whether Huguelet’s husband was in the car with her at the time of the shooting.
