One of the top five presidents

I still can’t believe that a school named after a president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, finally changed its name. It’s a shame. Thomas Jefferson was one of the top five presidents of the United States. He also wrote the Declaration of Independence. And yet we changed it to Lewis. Lewis was a fine man. He did a lot of things in Georgia and the south. But he did nothing in Lake County, nothing in Waukegan. Thomas Jefferson Junior High has existed for over 50 years, and it should have stayed that way. Same thing with Daniel Webster Junior High. The school board did not know what they were doing, and they’re going to regret it. In five, 10 or 15 years, nobody will know who Lewis was.

Monitor the money

Well, again the money is on the way for families with children. For me, I have expressed an opinion on this before. Where is it going and how is it being monitored, if at all. Adults not working because they make more money not working than working. And here we are giving them more, and using the disguise of children. Just remember that when your taxes go up — more for gas, food, etc. — we are paying for it so your neighbor takes advantage of you and your government.

Not such an honor

A look at District 60 statistics shows that 84.2% don’t meet standards for English, and 85.8% don’t meet standards for Math, yet they have a 77% graduation rate. The question I have is how much of an honor is it to have a Waukegan school named after you?

Look in the mirror

During the last few years, there has been a lot of finger-pointing by certain groups and individuals of calling people racist. The rule of thumb is that those who call others racist are the ones who are the racist.

We live in a free country

Once again, the press and people are misinterpreting statements. Sen. Cruz, Gov. DeSantis, etc. have all received the COVID vaccine. They are not opposed to it. What they are opposed to is the vaccine administration being mandated by the government. We live in a free country, and it is our right to decide whether or not to accept this inoculation. The government does not have the right to mandate our health care.

Stay informed

Shut down COVID news to prevent PTSD? Some smokers never get lung cancer, and some who’ve never smoked do. Violent movies, video games, growing up in domestic violent or abusive home, doesn’t influence others to repeat that pattern? They put blinders on horses so they don’t get spooked. People who strictly adhere to any political party do have blinders on. There are ways out of everything by being informed, and staying informed as things change.

Investment in humans

You want to stop violence? Get the guns off the street, provide free mental health, give more assistance to the police and give equality to all with a descent-paying jobs. We should all take a 30-day challenge. Try paying your bills, housing, maintaining your home, health care and feed your family on $8.75 an hour (40 hours is $350/week before taxes). See how much your in debt at the end of the month. People need jobs with health care and housing so they can afford to be able to survive. The more people with real-paying jobs, mental health, child care, education, etc., the less violence in America. Investment in humans will trickle down to create good citizenship and a nonviolent society.
