Burlington moving into new digs in Tinley

Burlington is preparing to move from its longtime home at 7061 W. 159th St. in Tinley Park to newer, smaller digs just around the corner in the new part of Tinley Park Plaza, which is being remodeled by owner Brixmor.

Burlington moved into its current home after Kmart moved out in 1995 into a new home at 16300 S. Harlem Ave. That site closed a few years ago and is going to turned into a warehouse for Pete’s Fresh Market.

Burlington’s business neighbor, Hobby Lobby, is expected to remain in its half of the former Kmart.

The Burlington space is not expected to be empty for long as Tinley officials have said a Floor & Décor store will be taking over the space.

Atlanta-based Floor & Decor is a specialty retailer of hard surface flooring, offering tile, wood, stone, related tools and flooring accessories. The company was founded in 2000. It has eight Chicago area locations, but the Tinley store would be its first in the south suburbs.

Village officials have said Floor & Décor is expected to bring more than 100 full-time jobs when it moves into the 70,000-square-foot space.

In addition to Burlington, a new grocery store is moving into the redeveloped Tinley Park Plaza. There has been no official announcement on which grocer is going to be the new tenant.

Another new tenant in the redeveloped plaza will be Phenix Salon Suites.

No word on when the new stores will be opening.

Martial arts center opens in Palos Hills

A new martial arts studio celebrated its grand opening on Saturday in Palos Hills.

Owner Roberto “Bob” Garza said the opening of A Center for the Martial Arts was a dream come true.

After shutting down during the pandemic, Garza said that the grand opening of the center at 10717 S. Roberts Road could not have come at a better time.

Attending the grand opening ceremonies were Palos Hills Mayor Gerald Bennett, public officials and members of the Hills Chamber of Commerce. Residents had an opportunity to tour the facility and learn more about the new martial arts center.

“We have always been supportive of the community,” said Garza, who is also known as “Dojo Cho.”

“We are in a good location and we want to thank everyone for coming out. Palos Hills has really reached out to us.”

The Center for the Martial Arts was once located in Burbank and dates back to 1990.

The martial arts center offers a variety of programs for all ages. The center provides classes in Akido, Danzan Ryu Jujitsu, Tai Chi and Shorin Ryu Karate.
