A 16-year-old girl was killed when the vehicle she was riding in was rear-ended by a hit-and-run driver, according to Chicago police.

Two adults in the front seats also were injured in the crash in the 4500 block of West Armitage Avenue in the Hermosa neighborhood about 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. All three had been traveling east in a white Dodge Charger when the car was hit from behind by a tan minivan also going east.

The force of the collision caused the rear of the Charger to hit “the rear of a legally parked semi-truck that was facing (east) on Armitage, killing the 16-year-old rear female passenger in the Charger,” police said. The girl was pronounced dead at Illinois Masonic Hospital. She had not been identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as of Wednesday.

The Charger’s driver, a 44-year-old man, was taken in for observation and the front passenger, a 49-year-old woman, was treated for leg pain, both at Illinois Masonic Hospital.

Police said the minivan did not stop and the occupants had not been located hours later.

There was a driver in the semi at the time of the crash and he was not injured, police said.
