A Libertyville man died after being struck by a Metra commuter train going from Libertyville to Fox Lake.

The man, identified by authorities as being 35 years old, was struck by an outbound train on the Milwaukee District North Line that was traveling north of Winchester Road in Libertyville, between Milwaukee Avenue and Butterfield Road. Libertyville police responded to the scene around 8:30 a.m. July 27, according to a news release from the police department.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to authorities.

Libertyville police said in the department’s release that the Metra Police Department and the coroner’s officer are investigating.

The incident caused hours-long delays for both inbound trains headed to Union Station in downtown Chicago and outbound ones to Fox Lake, according to social media posts by Metra.
